Steven McLean has been announced as the referee for the match between Aberdeen and Celtic on Saturday December 17.

It is the second time he has officiated a game involving the Scottish champions this season after he took charge of the 6-1 victory against Hibs earlier in the campaign.

He was involved in a controversy in a Hoops match recently when he was in charge of VAR during Ange Postecoglou's side's 4-3 victory against Hearts.

In that fixture he opted not to award the Bhoys what looked like a clear penalty when Jambos defender Michael Smith appeared to handle the ball in the box.

The decision baffled the Parkhead boss, who said at the time: "Obviously it is going to have teething problems [VAR] and it is going to take a while for them to streamline that process and I do not like the standing about.

"I just think we are here to watch the football and not to wait for people to make decisions around things.

"Look I thought we had a clear cut handball and penalty but apparently that's not good enough - what do I know?

Meanwhile, Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Barry Bannan feels that Celtic hero Tom Rogic is "wasted" in the English Championship.

The former Scotland international made clear on social media that he feels the 29-year-old could be playing at a much higher level.

He tweeted: "Tom Rogic, lovely player to watch. Wasted in the Champ."

The Australian opened his West Brom account with a lovely outside-of-the-foot finish against Sunderland.
