Ex-Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama has announced he is coming out of international retirement.

The 31-year-old hung up his playing boots for his country last year but has since u-turned on that decision.

He has been capped 64 times for Kenya and had decided to call time on playing for his nation after being left out of a World Cup qualifying squad last September.

However, the country's head coach Jacob Mulee has since departed the role, and Wanyama has now confirmed he is once again available for selection.

The news was announced by Kenyan minister for Sport, Ababu Namwamba, who made the news public on social media.

He tweeted: "I’m delighted Victor Wanyama has agreed to return fully to Harambee Stars, rescinding his earlier decision to exit the team.

“In our mission to rebuild our football and elevate our national teams, our elite players must be at the heart of this renaissance. Ogada Olunga too is in.”

In other news, the Scottish champions face stiff competition from another Turkish competitor in their fight to land Egyptian midfielder Mohamed 'Afsha' Magdy, it is understood.

With Turkish clubs Galatasaray and Besiktas as well as Saudi side Al-Ittihad already reportedly in the hunt for Afsha, Sivasspor have now rejoined the list of potential suitors.

A source close to the player has revealed that, while Celtic's interest appears to be genuine, Turkish club Sivasspor are also now back in the contest for his signature having had a bid knocked back for him in the summer.
