CELTIC defender Moritz Jenz should have been sent off after netting his first goal for the club against Ross County, a former ref has said.
Summer signing Jenz headed home for Celtic in the 3-1 win in Dingwall but should have received a second yellow after rushing into the crowd according to ex-ref Des Roache.
The central defender powered home in front of a packed away support and sprinted into the arms of adoring fans.
But according to the laws of the game he should have been sent off having already been booked earlier in the match.
Roache explained to the Get Involved Referee podcast: “Celtic have got away with one there because Jenz should be missing two games two weeks down the line.
“If you jump into the crowd or take your top off it’s an automatic yellow card so it should have been a second caution.
“I know it was late on in the game, tensions are high but laws are laws – it should have been a caution."
While Roache was certain in his thoughts on the decision from a rulebook standpoint - the former ref admitted he's not a fan of the law.
He continued: “I actually think that kind of celebration and euphoria should be encouraged. As someone who likes to see goals, don’t dull it. I don’t agree with the law, but it is the law and it should have been applied.
“I think the way they look at it is that is could endanger the safety of the fans. There could be a crush, which I understand. But have a feel for the game. Is it that bad a thing to do? No.”
