Champions Celtic were at the imperious best as they swept Hearts aside 4-1 in the Scottish Premiership at Tynecastle.

Goals from Matt O'Riley, Daizen Maeda, Kyogo Furuhashi and Tomoki Iwata saw Brendan Rodgers men preserve their seven point lead at the top of the table.

It was Kyogo's 60th Celtic career goal as fellow compatriot Iwata netted a first precious strike.

Steven Naismith's men simply had no answer as the visitors set about their hosts and a fervour with a gusto.

Danish international O'Riley put the disappointment of not featuring for Denmark against San Marino in midweek by giving a midfield masterclass in the capital.

He set the tone for what was to follow after just three minutes in this one with a fantastic volley after Luis Palma's dink over the Jambos defence.

Reo Hatate then played in compatriot Maeda for a tap-in from inches out and Celtic were 2-0 and cruising at the interval. Hatate contrved to miss a penalty seconds after the interval when he slammed an effort off the post. Kyogo then made it eight goals in consecutive games against the men in maroon as he hammered high into the net to make it 3-0.

Lawrence Shankland smashed a cracking effort in via the post to reduce the arrears at 3-1 but it served to be temporary respite from the capital punishment as Iwata lashed home via the underside of the bar and the rout was complete.

It was arguably Celtic's best display domestic display of the season.

The victory sets the men in green and white up rather nicely for Matchday three of the Champions League at Parkhead on Wednesday night when Diego Simeone and Antoine Griezmann come calling to Glasgow.

Celtic, of course, are going in search of their first Champions League group stage win in a decade.

Rodgers side will be equally determined to post their first Champions League points on the board after losing 2-0 away to Feyenoord in Rotterdam on Matchday one and succumbing to a late Lazio sickener in Glasgow on Matchday two.
