Joe Hart: The Celtic goalkeeper did not have a lot to do during the game. His distribution was solid, and he looked to get things moving quickly. Early in the second half, he had to be alert to a Starfelt deflection that could have gone anywhere. Overall it was a professional, if uneventful, showing from the Englishman during the 90 minutes. He managed to save one of the five penalties. 6

Anthony Ralston: It was a strong performance from the right-back, as he was effective both defensively and offensively. He made a crucial block 10 minutes in to deny Demari Gray, who got a shot off that looked goal bound. The 24-year-old consistently pushed forward to support the midfield and made some crucial interceptions. 7

Moritz Jenz: He had to be aware of the speed of the Everton forward line and was alert just before the half-hour mark to make sure a counter-attack was not allowed to get going. The German was consistent in playing out from the back and looked to break the lines when he could. He was able to deal with the Premier League attackers with relative ease. 7

Carl Starfelt: While the Sweden international was solid enough in the previous game, he got off to a shaky start early on. A miskick allowed Neal Maupay to go one-one with Hart, but he put his attempt wide. A couple of times he seemed to be caught out of position. Not long after the break, he almost put the ball in his own net. Thankfully though, his deflection only went out for a corner. 5

Greg Taylor: Ange Postecoglou turned to his trusted left-back after opting to start Alexandro Bernabei last time out. The Scot was influential as ever in the inverted role, and he helped the Bhoys maintain a good bulk of the possession. He did not stop running but was quiet in the latter stages. 6

Matt O'Riley: There is such a calmness to the Dane that makes him a joy to watch. He was once again extremely disciplined in playing the number six position. At times the 21-year-old turned defence into attack and almost played a sensational ball in behind for Kyogo 22 minutes in. It was, unfortunately, just slightly overhit. He also had a shot deflected. There was a scary moment in the first 45 minutes when he was on the end of a shocking challenge which would have surely seen a red card shown had this been a competitive fixture. Thankfully he appeared to come out of the incident unscathed. He continued to dominate the midfield during the second half. 8

Reo Hatate: It was another strong showing from the midfielder. His range of passing was on show for everyone to see. He also looked to get a shot away in the opening stages of the match, but it was deflected away off a Toffees defender. Ten minutes before half-time, he played a wonderful ball through to Kyogo, which drew the first save of the game from Asmir Begovic. Just prior to the break, he had a shot from distance which was not far away from breaking the deadlock. He did hit the post from the penalty spot in the shootout, but that did not diminish an otherwise excellent performance. 7

Celtic Way:

David Turnbull: He was quiet during his time on the pitch. There were not any individual errors from the Scotland international, but there is no doubt he will feel he could have contributed more to the game. Before half-time, he did force a save from Begovic from a free-kick. Near the end of the match, he did have another chance, but his shot was weak and easily held by the opposition keeper. Given the quality that supporters know he possesses, it is not unfair to have expected a bit more from him. 5

Sead Haksabanovic: While he began the last match on the bench, the winger was a threat from the start against the Premier League side. He regularly ran at his opposing full-back and tried to be brave in his passing. The Montenegrin should have had an assist when he fed Kyogo for what seemed to be a tap. However, the forward could not convert the chance. 6

Kyogo Furuhashi: The Japan international was a threat, as usual, due to his pace and movement. He found himself in on goal not long before half-time and did well to steady himself and take the ball past the Everton defender, but his shot was saved from Begovic. Just minutes into the second half, he missed a golden opportunity after Haksabanovic played the ball across, but his strike was palmed away by the keeper. The forward was eventually taken off, and will be disappointed not to have gotten on the scoresheet. 6

Jota: One of the players that the Australian fans will have been delighted to see start. He put in a teasing cross early on, which provided the first chance of the game for the Scottish champions, however, there was no one there to get on the end of it. The former Benfica man then almost opened the scoring with a stunning free-kick when his attempt rattled the bar 28 minutes into the first half. Just before the break, he had another strike from a set piece, but it was comfortably saved by the Everton keeper. While quieter during the second 45 minutes, he still had a couple of shots, with one just going over the bar and another from a corner being held by Begovic. 7

Substitutes

Liel Abada (Haksabanovic 60): The Israeli looked to make things happen during his time on the pitch. He missed what was basically a sitter right at the end of the match as he shanked a chance wide two yards from goal. He did score a great penalty at the end of the proceedings. 5

Giorgos Giakoumakis (Kyogo 71): He was only involved for a short spell and received little service. He did his best to get involved in the build-up play, but the game had begun to peter out by the time he came on. The Greek did fire a shot over the bar from just outside the box, and that was as close as he got to finding the back of the net. He also missed the first penalty. 4

James Forrest (Jota 71): The veteran was another who was not involved much after coming on. He had a couple of runs and fired in a few crosses, but his contribution was limited during the match outside of a shot in the box, which was deflected away by the Everton defence, as well as providing a cross for Abada's late miss. He did score in the shootout. 4

Oliver Abildgaard (O'Riley 85): The Dane had no time to make an impact.

Rocco Vata: (Turnbull 85): Outside of a nice bit of skill to set up a chance for Forrest, his involvement was limited.
