Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has given an update on the injury status of goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel in an interview with Celtic TV.
The Denmark number one, who captained his country last month in their double-header versus Portugal in the Nations League – picked up an injury late on during the second leg in Lisbon, though he played on due to his national team having no more substitutions available.
In an interview with club media on Tuesday (April 1), Rodgers revealed that Schmeichel is optimistic on returning soon, though he will be unavailable for the next few weeks. He said: “We’ve had some news, and we’ll see over the course of the next five to six weeks, is what was mentioned.
“But this is just something that day by day we have a look at it. The timeline that was given to us was around about that, but Kasper tends to think it might not be as long as that.
“Certainly in the immediate future he won’t be available.”
When pressed by the interviewer on whether or not the 38-year-old will play again this season, Rodgers responded: “Yes, I believe so.
“But, like I say, we’ll just have to keep an eye on it.”

So far this season, Schemiechel has played 46 times for Celtic in all competitions, putting in stellar performances both domestically and in Europe. Signed on a free transfer following his release from Anderlecht in Belgium, the goalkeeper missed last Saturday’s Scottish Premiership match versus Hearts at Celtic Park.
Finland international Viljami Sinisalo made just his second start for his new club, as well as his league debut, keeping a clean sheet in what was a routine 3-0 victory at home.
Sinisalo has three caps for his national team, who was signed from Aston Villa, following an impressive loan spell at League One side Exeter City – managed by former Celtic defender Gary Caldwell.
