Steve Evans - the man who recommended Matt O'Riley to Parkhead chiefs - has insisted there is no doubt Tommy Conway could cut it at Celtic.

The Rotherham manager previously flagged up O'Riley - then at MK Dons - as a player Celtic should sign.

Fast-forward a couple of seasons and Celtic are reportedly set to demand a premium record-breaking fee for O'Riley to be allowed to leave the club with Atletico Madrid interested.

Evans' latest suggestion for Celtic this summer comes in Bristol City striker Conway.

The experienced manager reckons a deal for Conway would be a no-brainer as he saluted the "gifted" forward and advised him to head for Celtic immediately if there is interest.

“I see a lot of Celtic - they’re the only club other than Rotherham that I’d have left Stevenage for - and if you’re asking me, could Conway play at Celtic? Absolutely," said Evans in a ringing endorsement.

"Get in the car and go today, he could play there.

“The last player I recommended Celtic should sign, when I got a call from the manager, was the boy who went from MK Dons who’s now worth multi-millions.

"But he’s also at a very good football club here with lots to achieve and if I was Liam Manning I’d be saying to the board, ‘we need to keep players like that, if we’re genuinely going to challenge for the Premier League.'

"He might want to go to Celtic, but you can’t [let him], he’s a gifted boy."

Conway, 21,  hit the headlines in January as he scored the only goal for Bristol City to dump West Ham out of the FA Cup.

The bold striker then insisted he had plans to force his way into the Scotland Euros squad in the summer - having been capped at under-21 level and watched by staff.

"Yeah. I don't see why not," he said when quizzed on whether a spot in Steve Clarke's squad for Germany was in his sights.

"Obviously, there is competition in my position but I don't see why I can't be challenging those boys who have been called up before.

"It will be an interesting one but like I said, I can only get there if I am performing well for my club so that is my main focus at the minute."
