The ideas and collections of D’Arcy Thompson, the University of Dundee’s first Professor of Biology, have profoundly influenced many artists and writers who re-interpret natural history and Ellen K Levy is no different. This exhibition features site-specific prints and video work from Levy that explores our relationship with technology, including our aspirations and its threats.
The Private Memoirs and Confessions of a Justified Sinner

A rare first edition novel, the shepherd’s plaid, shepherd’s Crook and a James Hogg ‘death mask’ cast are among the highlights in a display about poet, writer and shepherd James Hogg. There’s also talks and stories connected to Hogg and his literary contemporaries being held throughout the year.

Ship Models - History of Shipping in Miniature

Explore the history of ship models as well as the evolution in shipbuilding designs in this exhibition from the Scottish Maritime Museum. There’s a diverse collection of ship models on display in an attempt to illustrate how model ships have been important to different cultures across the world and the role they played in influencing ship design for travel, trade and developing an increased capability in warfare.

Connect Exhibition

For ten years, artist Terry Howson ran a little gallery in France before returning to Scotland in 2010 where she now creates slightly abstract landscapes using jewel-like colours in oils and cold wax. This exhibition showcases a wide-ranging collection of work that reflect the artists’ deep love of nature and the natural world.

In the Playground of Norwegian Percipience

This exhibition consists of works inspired by a month artist Joy Parker spent exploring Norway from the capital Oslo to Tromso in the Arctic Circle. Some of the art on display includes prints using Norwegian artist Edvard Munch’s innovative technique, papier-mache sculptures and a book created in collaboration with poet Robert Leach.

Doug Cooker Themes and Variations

Artist Doug Cooker was brought up in rural Perthshire and comes from a long line of farmers and Blacksmiths before he went on to teach sculpture up and down the country as well as abroad. He’s undertaken many public sculpture commissions and his latest work is in response to the landscape and natural environment.

Under a Northern Sky

Artist James Morrison exhibited with the Scottish Gallery from the late 1950s onwards for a total of 26 solo exhibitions that have charted his journey as a painter. This latest exhibition contains a remarkable collection of Morrison’s Scottish subjects. His paintings took inspiration from his deep appreciation and knowledge of the natural world.

We Move as a Murmuration

Drawing inspiration from bird flocks to reflect on the entangled relationships between humans and birds, the exhibition proposes approaches of kinship, liberation, and collective care. In order to follow the natural movement of murmurations, the co-curators of the exhibition have developed a design that will “swirl” and transform with new artworks and installations in July to bring fresh perspectives to audiences and emphasise the themes of change and movement.
Silver Stories

Artist Evija Laivina has explored the emotional and spiritual journey undertaken by those who choose to let their hair naturally turn silver. Originally started as a documentary series in 2021, it evolved into a visual exploration of the relationship between natural beauty and nature.
Instant Whip: The Textiles and Papers of Fraser Taylor Revisited

This exhibition shines a light on the archive of interdisciplinary artist Fraser Taylor. Bringing together this unique archive with new commissions for the first time. It explores the connections to textiles, fashion, design, style, identity and links to Glasgow in Taylor’s work.
