Celtic look set to win a club vs country row with Honduras desperate to use Luis Palma for their Copa America play-off.

And the Central American nation appears resigned to missing their star man and has even called up a replacement for him.

Palma missed the weekend's Scottish Cup win over Livingston with a calf knock and Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers this week confirmed he will be out domestically until after the international break.

He said: "Luis Palma was always going to be after the international break for a return."

Honduras wanted the winger to join up with their camp and be assessed by their own medical staff ahead of their crucial play-off with Costa Rica, in Texas.

But reports in his homeland have indicated they will have to accept Palma won't be there for the match.

Honduran FA sports director Luis Breve stated: "We are in permanent contact with Celtic and will do everything to ensure Luis Palma attends the camp and then gets assessed by our own doctor, Guillermo Toledo."

Honduras have already added Olimpia player, Jose Mario Pinto to their squad but didn't confirm it was as a replacement for Palma.

Meanwhile, a former Aberdeen chief reckons Brendan Rodgers is working on 'borrowed time' at Celtic.

Keith Wyness has aimed a pop at the Irishman, seemingly out of nowhere, as he insists the Parkhead board should be looking to make a managerial change.

Rodgers returned to Celtic last summer as Dermot Desmond got his trusted man to replace Ange Postecoglou.

It's not been as plain sailing as his first tenure though, with an early League Cup exit to Kilmarnock and a poor European campaign only saved by a seven-point gap over Rangers.

However, that's now been wiped out by Philippe Clement's team who sit top of the pile in the Premiership - two points ahead of the champions.
