Former Celtic boss Ronny Deila is on the brink of being sacked by Club Brugge after they were bundled out of the Belgian Cup.

The Norwegian boss made the controversial switch from Standard Liege to Brugge in the summer and was expected to help them launch a title challenge.

But they are in third place in the league, 20 points behind leaders Union Saint-Gilloise and blew a first-leg lead in the Belgian Cup semi-final to crash out of the competition to USG in a 2-0 defeat in Brussels.

And the Brugge board are reportedly meeting to decide Deila's future before their game on Sunday away to Genk.

Deila, who managed Celtic for two seasons, admitted he didn't know whether he would keep his job after their latest setback.

He said: "Many managers have been in similar situations here, but it's up to the board to decide.

"The question of whether I am the right person in the right place has been asked since day one.

"Look, since I came to Belgium, everything in Brugge has revolved around the manager. Everything always seems to be bad, unless a trophy is won.

"There always seems to be a crisis at this club.

"If expectations are so high, everyone will ultimately fall short. Last year was a tough season and now it seems to be that way again.

"But we still have a lot to play for. First, we have to get to the league play-offs and we are still fighting in the Europa Conference League."

Meanwhile, the decision to recognise Ange Postecoglou as Manager of the Year at the London Football Awards has come under scrutiny - from his own peers.

Leyton Orient boss Richie Wellens has aimed a dig at the awards ceremony after he was pipped to the accolade by the Australian.

Postecoglou has only been at Tottenham since last summer when he arrived from Celtic fresh from winning the treble in his final season.
