Celtic hero Jota may finally have a road out of Al-Ittihad.

The Portuguese winger joined the Saudi Arabian club during the summer transfer window for £25 million but has struggled to make an impact.

His game time was limited under the previous boss Nuno Espirito Santo due to the quota on foreign players.

Jota has been linked with several clubs since his struggles in Saudi Arabia emerged, one being Newcastle United, the owners of which also happen to be charge of the 24-year-old's current side.

The Premier League have voted against a ban on clubs loaning players from within the same ownership group, meaning Eddie Howe's side have the chance to bring players from other Public Investment Fund-owned clubs.

And this could allow the forward to move on loan in the January transfer window after it was previously reported that he was "allowed" to leave the Saudi Pro League side.

Meanwhile, Brentford have announced that Kristoffer Ajer has signed a new contract until the summer of 2028.

The Bees, who signed the Norway international in 2021, have an option to extend Ajer’s contract by an additional 12 months.

The versatile defender has played 12 games in all competitions this season.

Manager Thomas Frank told the club website: “I’m very pleased that Kristoffer has extended his contract.

“Now he is playing regularly at centre-back and right full-back and I think he plays both of those positions at a very high level.

“Kristoffer has shown consistency and quality in this recent block of games, which I’m pleased about.”
