Celtic star Gustaf Lagerbielke has been named Swedish league defender of the year after his form at Elfsborg.

The 23-year-old joined the Parkhead side in the summer transfer window for £3million but has struggled for regular game time.

He was thrown into action almost immediately due to an injury crisis at centre-back and has featured seven times for the Hoops so far.

Lagerbielke was sent off for a second yellow card against Feyenoord and has been unable to regain his position in the team since.

The Sweden international starred for Elfsborg last season as they came close to winning the league title before losing in the Allsvenskan final to Malmo.

Meanwhile, Luis Palma has expressed his delight at Parkhead fans singing his name, admitting he never expected it to happen.

The Honduras international has scored five goals and provided four assists for the Scottish champions so far this season.

And he is enjoying life in Glasgow. Speaking to outlet LaPrensa, he said: "I didn't expect them to release a song for me. I thank the club's fans, they are the best fans I have ever had in my clubs. I feel blessed, I hope to God I can continue.

"That's what I work for, to be a starter at Celtic doing things well and to be attracting attention in a good way.

"Taking advantage of that and putting it into practice in the selection."
