Celtic's winning run of 17 consecutive matches in all competitions came to an end against Motherwell after the Hoops drew 1-1 with the Steelmen at Parkhead.

Ange Postecoglou's side took the lead thanks to a deflected Callum McGregor effort but were unable to extend their advantage before the inform Kevin van Veen equalised in the second half to give the visitors a share of the points.

At full-time the 57-year-old cut and admitted there was a sense of "desperation" to his team's play at times.

Speaking after the match, the Australian said: "It was a disappointing outcome and our performance was not at the level we have been reaching.

"I thought in the first half we controlled the game really well and scored our goal and had some good opportunities to get a second.

"We conceded a really disappointing and poor goal and from there we still had chances to win it but there was a bit of desperation around our game and we just didn't get the goal we needed.

"We were in control of the game for the most part...well the whole part. I think when you concede a goal like we did today that gives the opposition some encouragement and some extra energy to defend a little bit more desperately and we just lacked that little bit of composure, particularly in the box as we had some good changes that we normally put away."

Celtic Way:

Even though the Parkhead team dropped points, they ultimately extended their lead the top of the Scottish Premiership after Aberdeen defeated Rangers 2-0.

Celtic loanee Liam Scales scored a wonder goal, whether he meant it or not, as Barry Robson's men ran out deserving winners at Pittodrie.

That result means Postecoglou's side are only one win away from clinching the title and will have the chance to do so in the first post-split fixture.

Before that, though, there is the small matter of the Scottish Cup semi-final against the Ibrox side.

The Hoops ran out 2-1 winners in the League Cup final the last time both teams met at Hampden.

However, will Celtic be without one of their key players in Reo Hatate for the clash?

The Japanese midfielder has not featured for the Scottish champions since before the international break after picking up an injury against Hibernian last month.

Postecoglou has previously declared a player needs a "full week's worth of training" before being declared for a fixture.

If he is unavailable, then the Australian may turn to Matt O'Riley and Tomoki Iwata in the number eight roles, with Aaron Mooy and David Turnbull also being in consideration.
