Former Celtic striker Giorgos Giakoumakis continued his red-hot start to life with Atlanta United with his third goal in three MLS starts.

The 28-year-old swapped the SPFL for the MLS in the January transfer window but was forced to wait longer than expected for his debut due to Visa issues.

Giakoumakis scored in his maiden start against Portland Timbers in March before following that up with the winning goal as United beat New York Red Bulls last week.

He extended his excellent run of form on Saturday with a powerful 70th-minute header against New York City at Yankees Stadium in the Bronx.

The Greek is now the only man in Atlanta United club history to score in each of his first three starts for the franchise.

The draw against New York City ensures Atlanta stay in the upper echelons of the MLS Eastern Conference.

United, the second-top scorers in the conference so far with 14, are currently in third spot with four wins and two draws from their opening seven matches. FC Cincinnati lead the way with five wins and two draws.

Giakoumakis's finishing skills have already impressed his new team-mates - with United winger Derrick Etienne Jr remarking after his goal against the Red Bulls: "That man number seven was born to score goals."
