Former Celtic star Patrick Roberts has opened up on his friendship with Kieran Tierney.

Both men were close during their two-and-a-half seasons together at the club and the Englishman has detailed the bond they shared.

Roberts is currently on the books of English Championship side Sunderland while Tierney is at Arsenal.

And the forward has nothing but good things to say about the Scotland international.

He told the Celtic View podcast: "When he came in, he was only my age and he came through as a home-grown player.

"I came from Man City so we had different journeys. I sat beside him in the changing room and we got on well.

"I could see what he was like as a personality - he got my banter and I got his. We made a great friendship off the pitch and on the pitch as well.

"We got on really well, enjoyed each others company and it was the same with some of the other lads.

"I used to live downstairs from Nir Bitton, who helped me settle in as he'd been there for a long time. Everybody there was great with me and made my time enjoyable off the pitch - as well as on it."

Meanwhile, Celtic captain Callum McGregor feels a victory over Rangers in the upcoming Scottish Premiership clash would "strengthen" the Hoops' league position.

Ange Postecoglou's men are currently nine points clear at the top of the table.

The two clubs last met in the League Cup final at Hampden in February, where the Parkhead side ran out 2-1 winners.

And McGregor feels a victory in the next fixture could be vital come the end of the campaign.

He said: "It certainly strengthens our position (if Celtic win). We are now running out of games.

"Our focus is always to try and play our best game of the season when it comes next and this one is on Saturday.

"We will be trying to do the maximum to win the game and if we do we understand the consequences of that.

"It puts us another step closer to where we want to be so for us that is the full focus.

"After the game we will see where we are."
