FORMER Rangers star Kevin Muscat has told Celtic they have signed an incredible athlete who has the drive for success after snapping up his Yokohama F.Marinos star man Tomoki Iwata.

The Hoops have snapped up the J-League's Player of the Season as Ange Postecoglou swooped on another player from Japanese football.

And Postecoglou's successor at Yokohama, countryman Muscat - who once had a short spell at Ibrox - has praised his former boss' move to sign Iwata.

Iwata was playing third-tier Japanese football just a few years ago, but has enjoyed a meteoric rise to the top and ended up in Scotland.

And Muscat, in an interview with Australian media outlet keepup, said: "This is only the beginning for Tomoki and he has a huge upside. It’s great to see him rewarded with this opportunity. He is someone that his teammates will admire as he always puts the team first.

"People will identify his remarkable physical presence in the form of strength, speed and endurance and his versatility as his biggest strengths.

“He is just an unbelievable athlete. And he is reliable, unfazed and disciplined.

"For me, his biggest attributes are desire and mentality. Without this mentality, you don’t perform in different positions at the level he does.

"His desire to work relentlessly to improve is driven by his mentality.”
