Kwon Hyeok-kyu is reportedly Celtic’s latest transfer target, according to South Korean outlet Sports Chuson.

He is a defensive midfielder who currently plays for K League 2 side Buson Ipark in his homeland.

The 21-year-old signed his first professional contract in 2019 and has also played for top flight club Gimcheon Sangmu on loan.

He has been playing professional football for over three years and also completed his mandatory military service during his time away from Buson Ipark.

He has also been capped for South Korea’s U23s several times and featured for his country at the delayed 2020 Olympics.

According to Wyscout, passing accuracy is an area in which the 21-year-old excels as his numbers have only dropped below 80 per cent three times in 2022 across 24 appearances.

On average per 90 minutes across 2022, he completed 62.2 per cent of his dribbles, produced 3.97 interceptions and won 19.7 of his duels.

From a brief look, he appears to be both a dominant player but also someone who is effective with the ball at his feet.

He could be another option for Ange Postecoglou's side in the number six position which could in turn allow captain Callum McGregor to move further forward.

The South Korean has also occasionally played as part of a back three, so could also provide a defensive option for the Scottish champions.

With 24 appearances for two clubs over the last 12 months, the midfielder seems capable of adjusting to different scenarios.
