Celtic target Cho Gue-sung has confirmed that he will be heading to Europe in the January transfer window - but the striker remained tight-lipped on a potential Glasgow switch.

The South Korean international netted twice at the World Cup and Ange Postecoglou is keen to land him to boost his striking firepower.

Gue-sung will exit Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors next month and speaking about recent interest, he revealed that European clubs are monitoring.

The 24-year-old said: “There is interest from European clubs.

“After playing against world-class players at the World Cup, I want to advance to Europe.

“I want to go there and grow more because I met players from Europe and South America here.

“The desire to meet again in club football has grown stronger.”

His father Cho Chae-hwan was also vocal in the press yesterday as he detailed that a deal was almost done ahead of the January window.

He explained: “The advice I have given him is when he signs for a team abroad, to go to a club that can play the way he likes, rather than choosing a club because they are a big name.

“He needs a club that will help him adapt and settle to a new lifestyle on and off the pitch.

“I know his agent is in the process of finalising negotiations regarding his transfer overseas.

“He will certainly go to Europe now.

“Ahead of the World Cup, I told Cho that this was a tournament where he had to show everyone what he could do on the pitch, and I think he did that.

“He has had a great time at the World Cup and I am certainly very proud of him.”

Cho netted twice against Ghana in the World Cup group stage as South Korea made it into the knockouts of the tournament. They were knocked out by Brazil this week in the last 16.
