Former Celtic goalkeeper David Marshall feels 'it will be weird' when he returns to Parkhead with Hibs to face the Hoops in the Scottish Premiership.

The 37-year-old came through the Scottish champions' youth system and made his debut for the first team in 2003.

He famously put on a sensational performance in a 2004 UEFA Cup tie against Barcelona, which saw him pull off several brilliant saves as the Bhoys knocked out the Catalan giants from the competition over two legs.

The upcoming fixture will be the first time the ex-Wigan Athletic man has played against his old club since he departed for Norwich City in 2007, and he thinks it will be an unusual experience.

“I played at Celtic Park for the Scotland v Ireland game a few years ago, but this will be the first time I’ve gone back to play Celtic,” he told The Scotsman.

“It will be weird having been there when I was so young and going back now. But I am looking forward to it, you want to be playing in these stadiums.

“I know a few of the people who are still there, [current assistant manager] John Kennedy was there when I was coming through and is on the staff now.

“And I know [goalkeeping coach] Stevie Woods from when he was in the academy at Celtic and then moved up.

The Hibees shotstopper, who won five trophies during his time at the club, including two league titles, thinks the Edinburgh club can take advantage of some possible unrest after the Parkhead side's recent defeat to RB Leipzig.

He continued: “They will want to start that against us on Saturday.

“I was there when I was younger coming off the back of big nights, the crowd can be different and it can be difficult to get going at times.“If that’s the case then we will try to take advantage of that.

“But we know that the way their manager sets them up, it’s the first 15 or 20 minutes they try to win games in."
