Celtic have received lofty praise from Shakhtar Donetsk defender Valeriy Bondar.

The Ukrainian was speaking after the match between the two teams in Warsaw ended 1-1.

After the home side won 4-1 away to Bundesliga giants Leipzig on matchday one, it would be reasonable to think that they would be confident ahead of facing the Scottish champions.

However, their manager Igor Jovicevic rated Ange Postecoglou's men above the team, who finished second in the German top flight last season.

This is according to the 23-year-old centre-half, who also explained how 'careful' he and his teammates had to be while defending against the Hoops.

"I was really impressed by the team that played against us," he said.

"We understood perfectly that the match would be difficult, and we prepared well for the game.

"We were told by our manager that Celtic were better than Leipzig, and that's right - they are better than them at the moment.

"So we had to approach the game very carefully, and we gave our all on the pitch.

"We did everything to win and to please our fans."
