FORMER Liverpool player Danny Murphy has cheekily suggested Ange Postecoglou could be a potential option for Chelsea in their hunt for a new manager.

The ex-Fulham midfielder appeared on talkSPORT this morning alongside Jim White and Simon Jordan.

The trio have been reacting to the news that Thomas Tuchel has been sacked by Chelsea.

The club's new American owner Todd Boehly took action following their shock defeat to Dinamo Zagreb last night in the Champions League.

Graham Potter and Mauricio Pochettino appear to be the early frontrunners for the position.

White asked Jordan who he would have at the top of his list if he was in Boehly's shoes.

The ex-Crystal Palace owner diplomatically stated that he would need to take time to consider his options.

With his tongue in his cheek, Murphy enthusiastically nipped in: "Postecoglou?"

Jordan replied: "Well, that is a huge step up again The question for me is that I wouldn't have been sacking Tuchel unless there was a really, really compelling reason that we are not aware of."

Painting a picture for their listeners, Murphy then said: "Look at Jim's face!"

A little while later, he continued: "I know I said it with tongue 'n' cheek, but could Postecoglou be considered?"

Jordan replied: "It's about levels, isn't it? That's why I'd rule Potter out the equation."

Murphy finished: "Yes, but he's shown his character."
