Scottish football fans returned to stadiums around the country for the opening weekend of cinch action – and Celtic hosted 45 percent of the entire country's combined attendance.

Livingston vs Rangers and Celtic vs Aberdeen were both available to watch on Sky Sports, but 106,173 faithful fans were in attendance throughout the top-flight - the fifth largest gathering this century.

58,824 were inside a raucous Celtic Park for flag day and they all left Glasgow’s East End delighted after a well-deserved win against Jim Goodwin’s Aberdeen.

In total, there were 130,983 fans who turned out to watch their sides across Scotland's four divisions. Grounds in the cinch Championship hosted 11,883 fans while 12,927 were plotted around Leagues One and Two with 7,321 of those at League One sides Dunfermline and Falkirk.

Speaking about the fantastic support, SPFL chief executive said: “The start of a new cinch SPFL season is always an exciting time, and it was made even better by the fact we’ve started it for the first time in three years with capacity crowds.

“It is hugely impressive for over 130,000 fans to have attended matches across our four divisions and another reminder of the huge commitment of Scottish football fans.

“Having fans back in stadiums has been a real boost for supporters themselves, players, and the clubs, and dramatically improves the experience for all involved.

“It’s been a tough time for our 42 member clubs since the pandemic began, so to have ticket and hospitality revenue from the beginning of the season again is a real bonus.”
