CELTIC reportedly made a £2.5million transfer offer to try and sign Caen striker Alexandre Mendy.

French media outlet L'Equipe claim Celtic tabled an offer for the club's top scorer for a summer move.

The report suggests the offer for Mendy was knocked back by the Ligue 2 club.

Mendy, 28, is under contract with the club until the summer of 2024 and has an impressive 16 goals in 30 matches so far this term.

L'Equipe go on to report Caen would be ready to negotiate with Celtic over a deal if a "higher offer" is submitted.

Celtic's links with Mendy comes as Ange Postecoglou's striking options have returned to full strength with Giorgos Giakoumakis and Kyogo Furuhashi both fit.

Both had struggled with fitness issues this term, with Kyogo making his first start since December in the 2-0 win over Ross County on Sunday.

Daizen Maeda and Liel Abada have deputized at striker in the pair's absence with David Turnbull also thrown in up-front this season.

Albian Ajeti appears to be on his way out of Celtic as he has been out of the picture for much of the season.
