CHRIS SUTTON has branded this Sunday's Celtic and Rangers Scottish Cup semi-final as the 'Desperation Derby'.

The Parkhead hero reckons both sets of players will be giving everything to claim bragging rights and a spot in the showpiece Hampden final.

Sutton - who refuses to say the league is done and dusted - wrote in his Daily Record column that while the pressure it on Rangers, the match will mean just as much for Celtic.

Ange Postecoglou's men claimed the Premier Sports Cup in December and boast a six point lead in the Scottish Premiership table with five games remaining.

It leaves the possibility for a treble in Postecoglou's first season. That's why Sutton christened the fixture with his new nickname as he took aim at the squabbles over whether it should be called the Old Firm or Glasgow Derby.

He wrote: "Plenty of people get their knickers in a twist over what to call this game with some folk calling it the Glasgow Derby and others making Old Firm arches.

"But this weekend it should be the Desperation Derby.

"And it’s not just for the reasons you think. Celtic fans will probably believe it’s just Rangers who will be desperate to get through this Scottish Cup semi-final.

"To them it’s the last chance saloon for the Ibrox club to get their hands on a domestic trophy with the Premiership already en route to Parkhead.

"I don’t see it that way. I don’t think the league is done and dusted yet for a start."
