SHEFFIELD UNITED have walked away from a loan move for Celtic goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas, according to reports.

The Greek shot-stopper arrived at Parkhead in the summer of 2020 for a fee of around £5million but is now the third-choice goalie after slipping down the pecking order.

Former England internationalist Joe Hart was recruited last summer and has made the gloves his own, while Scott Bain recently committed his future to the Glasgow club by signing a contract extension.

Barkas' time in Scotland is believed to be drawing to a close and the Daily Mail report that a deal to bring the 27-year-old to Bramall Lane has collapsed due to Celtic's demands.

According to the Mail, the Premiership club wanted Sheffield United to pay a large percentage of the goalkeeper's wages, as well as requesting a loan fee and inserting an option to buy the Greek in the summer for £2.5m.

An unnamed Swedish club are also believed to have made an approach for the goalkeeper but were priced out of a loan move.
