RAITH ROVERS midfielder Ethan Ross has warned that the Kirkcaldy side won’t ease up having got themselves into a strong position.
John McGlynn’s side notched up their 10th game unbeaten with a comfortable win over Hamilton Accies on Saturday, a result that puts them just three points behind league leaders Kilmarnock.
Ross, who netted a first-half brace, is thrilled with the sequence of results but wants to make sure that there is no let up now having got into a commanding position.
“We’re second in the league but we’ve got to keep our feet on the floor and keep working for every performance,” he said. “It’s Morton next week and we look to get three points there and see where it takes us.”
An own-goal from Kieran MacDonald after just four minutes put Accies on the back foot when the game was just four minutes old before Ross chipped in with his two before the break.
And the 20-year-old revealed that it was McGlynn’s word in his ear before the game that set up his goals.
“The gaffer told me their midfielder takes time on the ball and that would be an opportunity to nick in and win it - and I did that,” said Ross. “He’s tried to take a touch by me and Dario Zanatta has played a goal ball and thankfully it went in.
“The second one was a bit more instinctive. It just dropped to me inside the box and I’ve hit its gone off one post and the other so I was happy to see that one go in.
“We knew that if we got the ball to Dario down that left hand side he would cause problems and he did that the whole game from start to finish.
“My second goal I think came from him doing that, he’s been brilliant. It was also a great switch of play by Brad Spencer.
“I loved my football here last year so I was glad to get back. I’m loving it. I’ve managed to get myself back into the team and performances like that can only help me and the team going forward.
“That’s just everything coming together in a team performance which is brilliant."
Accies are now just three points off of bottom of the table Dunfermline – who got a new manager bounce with the arrival of John Hughes and their first league win of the season – and never looked capable of coming back after going behind.
Stuart Taylor’s side had a couple of shots on target in the second period but never troubled veteran keeper Jamie MacDonald.
“It is a tight league and things can change so quickly,” said Accies defender Brian Easton. “We aren’t going to press any panic buttons just yet.”
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
