CELTIC have agreed a fee of £2.5m with Legia Warsaw for Croatian international Josip Juranovic, and are now discussing personal terms with the player's representatives.

The club stepped up their interest in the right-back this week after cooling on a loan move for Manchester City defender Yan Couto, who will now join Portuguese side Braga.

Herald Sport understands that having completed negotiations on a transfer fee, Celtic are confident they can swiftly conclude a deal with the 26-year-old, as Juranovic himself was always keen on the move to Scotland.

"He'd be one of a number of right full-backs we have been linked to over the period I have been here," said Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou earlier on Tuesday.

"It's obviously an area where we definitely need some cover. At the moment Anthony Ralston is doing an outstanding job and I think there's more in him to improve. But he can't play every game.

"So it's definitely an area we need to strengthen and it's an area we are targeting and I'm hoping for us to add to, but to nail it down to one person, that's not how it's been working.

"We are working on multiple targets in each position because, the way the market is at the moment, there's no guarantee you'll get anyone over the line.

"That's probably why I have been linked with so many people, but in terms of deals done, nothing is done yet."

Meanwhile, former Celtic target Ko Itakura is close to joining German side Schalke on loan from Manchester City.

The Japanese central defender had been tracked by Celtic during the Olympics, but he now looks to be heading to the Bundesliga 2.
