GORDON STRACHAN is set to return to Celtic in a ‘senior advisory’ role, with the 64-year-old starting his new job with the club tomorrow.

Strachan was previously manager of Celtic for four years, delivering three Premiership titles, two League Cups and a Scottish Cup during his tenure.

Herald Sport understands he will be tasked with restructuring the club’s academy set-up, as well as being a sounding board for Ange Postecoglou.

His move back to Celtic will mean he will be working alongside son Gavin on the coaching staff, as well as John Kennedy and Stephen McManus, who played under him when he was Celtic manager.

Chief executive Dominic McKay previously said that he was not considering Strachan for a director of football position, a role that has yet to be filled at the club.

“No, I want to make my own mark and part of that is looking at how we might want to modernise and evolve,” McKay said in late June. I will make sure we are a forward looking club.

"I am completely open minded. Your suggestion was that Gordon was coming in to do a director of football role, that is not my intention.

"Once we get the structure right we will make the decisions on who to populate that with."
