SFA chief executive Ian Maxwell incurred the wrath of Celtic supporters earlier this week with his controversial take on Jota's disallowed goal for the Hoops against Motherwell at Fir Park last month.

Maxwell maintained the most important thing was that the officials made the correct call. Yet he seemed to offer a third explanation as to why the VAR cameras did not carry definitive and conclusive pictures of the incident.

Originally the lack of VAR images was blamed on human error and then a news report emerged suggesting the camera was trained on the dugout and not the flashpoint as Jota ran through and scored.

Now Maxwell has muddied the waters further by stating: “That was an interesting one because nobody is actually saying Jota was offside or the decision was wrong. The angle looks strange but that doesn’t really matter because fundamentally the decision was right and that is what it is meant to do.

"There was an issue with the camera angle, it wasn’t wide enough to capture the ball and the individual, so we had to use the camera at the other end of the pitch.

"Thankfully, the Hawkeye system saw this coming and that’s why both cameras are calibrated to deal with offsides the length of the pitch, in case you get a technology failure or a human error. It just looked a bit strange, but the outcome was right, we got the right decision.”

Sean, Tony and Aidan discuss Maxwell's 'comments in Friday's Celtic Briefing, while also addressing the SFA's new heading restrictions.

Elsewhere, the guys congratulate the four Celts who have made it to the World Cup last 16 and check in on their own pre-tournament predictions... with much hilarity!
