With Ange Postecoglou having led a second team to a 36-game unbeaten streak, we take a closer look at how his current run with Celtic compares and contrasts with his historic first with Brisbane Roar...

Dates

Brisbane Roar: September 18 2010 – November 26 2011

Celtic: September 26 2021 – Present

Roar's run is truly historic. It broke a 74-year-old Australian team sports record set by Eastern Suburbs - yes, that's sports record, not just soccer record. Eastern Suburbs are a rugby league side.

While 36 matches unbeaten is formidable for the Celtic class of 2022, it's not quite the 69 games undefeated the Hoops accomplished just five years ago. In league-only terms, Willie Maley's side went 62 top-flight games without losing between 1915 and 1917.

Curiously, both the Roar and Celtic streaks began with 1-1 home draws against teams named 'United'... Brisbane versus Adelaide United, Celtic against Dundee United.

Trophies and wins

The Roar won the A-League Championship and the A-League Grand Final in that span. They won 24 and drew 12 of their games, if you count their Grand Final penalty shootout triumph as a win and not a draw.

Celtic have lifted both the League Cup and the Premiership. They've won 30 and drawn six.

Postecoglou racked up 16 away games unbeaten within his famous Roar run; he currently has Celtic on an 18-game stretch of away results (16 wins, two draws). That one is even more remarkable given he inherited a club that hadn't won a domestic away game in almost eight months.

Dundee United are the only team to take points off Celtic twice (two 1-1 draws but, notably, one started the streak and the other sealed the league title).

Goals

Roarcelona - as they were nicknamed - scored 83 goals (2.3 per game) for the concession of 31 (0.86 per game).

Celtic have so far scored 88 goals (2.44 per game) and conceded 19 (0.53 per game).

Both hit seven against an opponent once and they account for the top scoreline recorded by the sides (Roar 7-1 Adelaide United; Celtic 7-0 St Johnstone).

Roar's goals-scored splits were 39 in the first half, 44 in the second. Celtic's is 51 first half and 37 second half.

Players

Three Roar players played in every game - goalkeeper Michael Theoklitos, central midfielder Erik Paartalu and defender Matt Smith.

No Celtic player has played every match of the 36. Cameron Carter-Vickers missed just one - versus Hearts in December - while Liel Abada and Joe Hart have missed two.

Other similarities and differences

Roar registered six victories by at least a four-goal margin while Celtic done that five times.

Brisbane were involved in zero 0-0 draws in their streak, meaning they scored in every game. Celtic have had three 0-0 draws (versus Livingston, St Mirren and Hibs).

Defensively, the Hoops have been far the more stubborn with 20 clean sheets to Roar's 13.

The Australians also conceded three times in a match twice - 3-3 draws against Melbourne Victory and Central Coast Mariners - with Celtic's concession high standing at two (a 4-2 and 3-2 victory against Dundee and a 3-2 win over Aberdeen).

Roar levelled after going behind on 18 occasions during their run. Celtic levelled after going behind three times in their 36 games (and won all three).
