VASILIS Barkas finally sealed a move away from Celtic - albeit temporarily - when he signed a season-long loan deal with Dutch Eredivisie side FC Utrecht.

The Greek goalkeeper who cost the Hoops £5million is looking to resurrect a career that has gone south since he joined the club in the summer of 2020 penning a four-year deal.

Interestingly enough, there has been no option to buy clause inserted into Barkas's deal with Utrecht.

Despite being handed numerous opportunities to stake a claim to be the regular Celtic number one, Barkas lost his place under then-manager Neil Lennon to Scott Bain and then youngster Conor Hazard.

Ange Postecoglou’s arrival as manager last summer saw him snap up former England goalkeeper Joe Hart, who instantly became the club’s first-choice between the sticks.

Whilst Barkas's loan move to Holland did not come as a surprise Celtic have also been linked with Benjamin Siegrist.

The former Dundee United goalkeeper is a free agent and despite having Scott Bain and youngster Tobi Oluwayemi as backups, Postecoglou may feel that he still needs more adequate cover in the shot-stopping department.
