Joe Hart: Came racing out of his goal like grease lightning on 20 minutes to smother the ball after great defensive work by Starfelt. That apart his handling was very safe despite being a virtual spectator for long spells of the contest. 7

Josip Juranovic: Strangely declined the opportunity to fire in an early free-kick at goal when he opted to toss one into the penalty area. He smashed a decent effort over the top midway through the first half and posed a threat all evening with his darting runs forward. 8

Cameron Carter-Vickers: He was always composed on the ball and was never severely tested by the Saints attack. Both central defenders were able to advance deep into St Mirren's half and become playmakers which is not their natural game. The on-loan Spurs man came up with the vital breakthrough goal in 55 minutes when he volleyed home with his left foot. 8

Carl Starfelt: The central defender snuffed out Curtis Main brilliantly when he threatened to pull the trigger. The Swede is growing in confidence in a Celtic shirt and backed up his own claims beforehand that he is in a good place and inadvertently set up his partner for the opening goal. 8

Greg Taylor: The much-maligned left-back linked the play excellently with the likes of Jota and Hatate. He even treated the supporters to a fine dummy during an early raid forward which drew a great cheer from the fans. He can be pleased with his contribution on the night. 8

Callum McGregor: The captain sensed some frustration from the stands as he told the players to calm down just after the half-hour mark. He struggled to make any real impact in the first 45 and picked up a deserved yellow card early in the second half. He was more effective when he moved further forward and the skipper stepped up to the plate to emphatically ram home a killer second. 7

Matt O'Riley: Replaced Tom Rogic in the starting line-up and he prompted and probed away and he was always trying to find a killer pass. It didn't always come to fruition but he was undeterred. 6

Reo Hatate: The Japanese midfielder is a shadow of the player that had an absolute stormer against Rangers and scored twice. The odd decent pass apart he is showing increasing signs of fatigue and looks slightly jaded. 5

Liel Abada: Hammered a side-footed effort straight down the throat of Jak Alnwick as the Israeli spurned the best chance of the half. St Mirren doubled up on both wide men all evening and space was at a minimum and hooked for Forrest on 65 minutes. 6

Jota: Tried the fanciful stuff on occasion which didn't always come off when a simple pass would have sufficed. The winger did force a diving save from Alnwick on 43 minutes and headed one onto the roof of the net. Like Abada the visitors' rearguard doubled up on him to blunt his threat from the wing. 6

Daizen Maeda: The Japanese striker kept his place in the side owing to Giorgos Giakoumakis's enforced absence through illness. He is lively and full of energy and endeavour. However, the attacker still has a bit to go yet before he fully convinces everyone that he is worthy of a permanent deal. 6

Substitutes:

Tom Rogic: The Aussie replaced the ineffective Hatate after 64 minutes and offered something more in an offensive sense and found space effortlessly. 5

James Forrest: Came on for Abada with 25 minutes left on the clock and ran at Tanser from the moment he came on. 4

Nir Bitton: He was given 25 minutes in place of O'Riley and shored everything up neatly. 3

Karamoko Dembele: Handed the last six minutes in place of Jota and got a rapturous reception and picked up a ridiculous yellow card. 2

Yosuke Ideguchi: Came on for the final few minutes. 1
