Meanwhile, former Celtic defender Moritz Jenz has shared an emotional message with Schalke fans after helping his new club overcome their derby hoodoo against Borussia Dortmund.

The centre-back, who spent the first part of the season on loan at the Hoops, joined the Bundesliga side from FC Lorient until the end of the current campaign.

Schalke ended their four-game losing run against their rivals and claimed their first point in the derby since October 2019 by drawing 2-2 and Jenz was keen to show his gratitude for the home fans on Instagram.

He wrote on social media: "Incredible will from the team and from the fans. That was a battle today in the derby.

"Thank you, like every week, for this incredible atmosphere and support. It makes me proud like every week to be a part of Schalke”.

Jenz's side currently sit 19th in the Bundesliga and they remain unbeaten since he joined with two wins and five draws.

He has also kept five clean sheet in seven games.
