The decision to recognise Ange Postecoglou as Manager of the Year at the London Football Awards has come under scrutiny - from his own peers.

Leyton Orient boss Richie Wellens has aimed a dig at the awards ceremony after he was pipped to the accolade by the Australian.

Postecoglou has only been at Tottenham since last summer when he arrived from Celtic fresh from winning the treble in his final season.

He has of course enjoyed a decent start to life in North London, with his brand of football attracting plenty of plaudits from supporters and pundits.

However, with the top four not a cast-iron guarantee by any stretch, and with Spurs out of both domestic cups in the early stages, the decision has been questioned.

And it appears it's exactly for that reason Wellens is perplexed at the Spurs boss receiving the gong.

The 43-year-old wrote on social media: "Honoured to be in the running for the Scottish Football Manager of the Year awards."

So, while Postecoglou's record in Scotland cannot be disputed, it's clear the wider perception south of the border is that he's not achieved anything yet.

Wellens joined Orient in 2022 with the club toward the bottom of League Two.

Within the space of a year though, he guided the O's to promotion to League One by finishing top of the division.

The London-based club currently sits eighth in League One as they aim for a second successive promotion, this time to the Championship.

Spurs are fifth in the Premier League, sitting five points behind Aston Villa who occupy the final top-four slot.

Postecoglou's men do have a game in hand over their rivals, however, there is much work still to be done if the Aussie is to guide them back to Champions League football.
