Hoops hero Reo Hatate has opened up on his relationship with the Celtic supporters after being told about a song the fans have for him.

The Japanese international heaped praise on the Parkhead crowd after the Bhoys' 2-0 victory over Norwich City in their final pre-season friendly.

Goals from Daizen Maeda and David Turnbull gave the home team the victory, but it was the 24-year-old who stole the headlines after putting in a man-of-the-match performance.

The star was also elated about the tune fans have for him which is a repurposed version of the Scooter song 'Weekend' with the lyrics changed to “Hey oh, Reo Hatate, the Celtic get excited when we see you play, it’s strange that this feeling grows more and more, but we’ve never loved a player like you before.”

He told The Sunday Post: "Yes, it made me happy. It was nice to hear that, I would like to satisfy their expectations. I will play for the team and for the supporters.

The Japanese midfielder also spoke about what he hopes he and the team can achieve this year ahead of the season starting next week.

He continued: "It will be the first time I have spent a whole season abroad, so it is a good opportunity to grow up as a player. We have a nice atmosphere and environment, so it all depends on me. I want to have a good season without any injuries.

“I don’t know how sharp I am, but we still have a long week, so I will do everything I can to start the season well. After last season I felt it was really important to have enough of a break, and I was able to take enough of a rest. I feel like I have been preparing well.”
