Former Celtic midfielder Peter Grant reckons new Hoops signing Moritz Jenz will ‘love’ the challenge of being a Parkhead defender – because he found it all too easy at Fulham.

Grant worked with the centre-back, who signed for the Premiership champions on Tuesday on a one-year loan deal from Ligue 1 side FC Lorient, when he was part of the Fulham youth academy alongside Matt O’Riley.

Grant told The Sun: “Ange Postecoglou has established how he wants the team to play — fast possession, direct attacking, play starting from the back. The Moritz Jenz I coached will certainly love that style.”

Postecoglou often speaks of signing a good person as well as a good player – and Grant reckons that’s exactly what he’s getting in Jenz.

“You honestly couldn’t meet a nicer boy than Moritz,” the former Hoops added.  “There was no one at Fulham he wouldn’t say hello to, no one he’d walk past.

“He had respect for everyone at the club, and I thought that was great.

“He treated everyone equally — and, as you can imagine, it made him a popular lad at the club.”

Jenz is the fourth player who has passed through the youth system at Craven Cottage to sign for the Parkhead side in recent years.

He follows the likes of Patrick Roberts, Moussa Dembele and O’Riley in ending up north of the border.

Grant feels the German is capable of making his mark in Glasgow just like the previous players who have made that same journey.

He added: “Just like with Patrick, Moussa and now Matt, I’d be massively pleased to see Moritz do well for Celtic. I really hope that he’ll be happy in Paradise.”
