CELTIC have confirmed the departure of Vasilis Barkas, on loan.

The Greek goalkeeper has joined Dutch side Utrecht for the season ahead.

Both clubs have taken to social media to confirm the move.

The 28-year-old signed for the Hoops just two-years-ago, but has suffered a disppointing time in Scotland.

Barkas signed for £5million from AEK Athens in 2020, as Neil Lennon moved to replace Fraser Forster.

Things haven't worked out for the keeper at all though, with a series of high-profile errors in his debut season costing him his place in the side.

Ange Postecoglou used Barkas briefly at the start of his tenure one-year-ago, however, it wasn't long before Scott Bain and then Joe Hart were ahead of the Greek in the pecking order.

It has been expected for a while that Barkas would leave the Parkhead side this summer.

A permanent deal has not been found yet, though, as Barkas will look to use his loan move in The Netherlands to find first team action once more.

FC Utrecht Technical Director Jordy Zuidam said: "Due to the ongoing injury of Fabian de Keijzer and the departure of Eric Oelschlägel, we aimed to strengthen our goalkeepers' guild. We are very pleased that this has been achieved with Vasilis Barkas

“Vasilis is a big and athletic goalkeeper. He has good reflexes, rules in the air in the box, stands his ground in one-on-one duels and has charisma. Vasilis is also an experienced keeper, who has played under the bar at top clubs in Greece and Scotland and has played the necessary international matches with Greece. He gives our team an absolute boost.”
